The New York Philharmonic's artist-in-residence and multi-award-winning violinist Leonidas Kavakos gets a chance to shine with the performance of a world premiere written especially for him by poet-composer Lera Auerbach, who creates "music of extraordinary power and intensity" (The New Yorker). And German soprano Christina Landshamer, who made her U.S. debut last season with the Lyric Opera of Chicago, takes the stage at David Geffen Hall for Mahler's magical Symphony No. 4, which depicts a child's view of heaven. Alan Gilbert conducts.
