What You'll Get
Deutscher Konnekt: Totentanz explores how German composers through the centuries have considered death and its power to connect all humanity. The Boston Chorale Ensemble returns to the music of Hugo Distler for the magnificent Totentanz, Op. 12 (1934) for unaccompanied choir, narrator and flute. The work follows along as Death converses with individuals of various ranks, occupations and ages -- conversations that are interspersed with choral verses drawn from the poetry of the 17th century German mystic Angelus Silesius. The program, at Boston University's Marsh Chapel, also includes music by Heinrich Schütz (whose Selig sind die Toten served as inspiration for Totentanz), Max Reger, Johannes Brahms, Robert Schumann and Josef Rheinberger. The tickets identified in this promotion are made available through Goldstar.
