Fake Radio Re-Creates Lux Radio’s Maltese Falcon
In 1539 the Knight Templars of Malta, paid tribute to Charles V of Spain by sending him a golden falcon encrusted from beak to claw with rarest jewels, but pirates seized the galley carrying this priceless token and the fate of the Maltese Falcon remains a mystery. With multiple parties on the hunt for this rarest of treasures, private investigator Sam Spade is caught between thieves, thugs, and temptation as he slowly untangles the mystery of this rare bird and all those who want it for themselves. In 1943, The Lux Radio Theater presented their version of the Dashiell Hammett classic, starring Edward G. Robinson as Sam Spade. 76 years later, Fake Radio is thrilled to re-create that entire 1943 CBS radio broadcast — commercials and all! — with our special guest star Lynne Stewart, best known from her recurring roles on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Peewee’s Playhouse. For almost 20 years, our shows have been transporting audiences back in time to a live taping of an old-time-radio show, expertly blending the original broadcast scripts — including the absurd commercials! — with unexpected improvisation. Previous Fake Radio guest stars include: Emmy Award winners John Larroquette, Ray Romano and Marcia Wallace; comedy legends Fred Willard, The Kids in the Hall, and Phil Proctor from The Firesign Theatre; well-established TV actors such as Jeff Garlin, Jamie Farr, Mindy Sterling, Lynne Stewart, John Lynch, Debra Skelton and Dean Cain; noted alternative comedians Tom Kenny, Maria Bamford and Rick Overton; and even one of the original cast members from Saturday Night Live: Laraine Newman.
