What You'll Get
Delve into the life and epic journey of legendary jazz composer John Coltrane through dance with Walking With 'Trane, a multidisciplinary performance piece from acclaimed Brooklyn-based troupe Urban Bush Women. Set to make its West Coast premiere at the Ford Amphitheatre, UBW's work explores the dynamics of Coltrane's music through experimental movement and original soundscape, focusing on Coltrane's jazz innovation in racially-charged 1960s America, in particular his genre-breaking work Love Supreme. The L.A.-based dance company Contra-Tiempo, which mixes Latin, hip hop and contemporary styles, kicks off this special evening under the stars with a new dance theater piece as well. She Who: Frida, Mami and Me is inspired by the stories of Frida Kahlo, Chavela Vargas and Mami Wata, a water spirit from the African diaspora.
The Ford is an outdoor venue and can get cold at night. Please plan accordingly. Additionally, it is a county park, so parking lots and the venue in general are located in hilly terrain. Comfortable shoes are recommended.
You are welcome to bring food and drink (beer and wine only) and picnic on our plaza or in your seats. Picnic tables are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Please visit the Ford Amphitheatre websites for more info on directions, theater policies, parking and special services and food and dining.
