A modern-day theater addict puts his favorite musical on the record player to chase the blues away, only to have the story come to life right there in his apartment. In the "musical within a comedy" (or the show-within-a-show), a pampered Broadway starlet's plans for marriage are upset by a scheming producer, then events are further complicated in hilarious fashion by her chaperone, a Latin lover and gangsters who double as pastry chefs. This comical send-up of early American musical theater bubbles over with wit, thrills and glorious song and dance -- all served extra dry with a few surprising twists. Now Mounds View Community Theatre presents this "perfect Broadway musical" (New York) at Irondale Theater.
