What You'll Get
A love letter to atomic-era monsters, William Castle-style theatrical gimmicks and 1960s Americana, Matinee is one of the most underrated films directed by Joe Dante (Gremlins, The Burbs). It's 1962 in Key West, Florida, where the upcoming premiere of producer Lawrence Woolsey's (John Goodman) half-man, half-ant creature feature Mant! coincides with President Kennedy's televised announcement that the Soviet Union has been shipping missiles to nearby Cuba. In this ensemble comedy, the canny Woolsey attempts to capitalize on the rampant nuclear paranoia to promote his atomic radiation-themed film while a cast of quirky locals grapple with life, love and the potential end of the world. This Salem Horror Fest screening of Matinee at the Peabody Essex Museum includes admission to a post-film panel discussion. The tickets identified in this promotion are made available through Goldstar.
