What You'll Get
Vivian Fung's Biennale Snapshots and Modest Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition, both inspired by the emotional power of great art, highlight the La Jolla Symphony's latest concert at Mandeville Auditorium. Mussorgsky's famed ten-movement composition imagines a walk around an art show, creating ten different vibes for ten different paintings. And making its U.S. premiere, Vivian Fung's Biennale Snapshots translates five pieces from Vancouver's 2014-2016 Open Air Museum installations into beautiful music. Guest conducted by Michael Gerdes, the concert also features the winner of the LJS&C 2015 Young Artist Competition, flutist Carlos Aguilar, on Carl Nielsen's Concerto for Flute.
