What You'll Get

Phylicia Rashad, who won a Tony for her role in A Raisin in the Sun, directs fellow Tony-winner Lillias White (The Life, Fela!) as blues legend Ma Rainey in Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright August Wilson's searing drama. Set in the 1920s on the southside of Chicago, a recording session for Rainey and her band becomes an intense battle of wills between a hot-headed young trumpeter and veteran musicians -- and between Ma and her white record producers. This Center Theatre Group production at L.A.'s Mark Taper Forum also stars veteran actors Keith David (Greenleaf, Platoon) and Glynn Turman (The Wire, House of Lies), and marks the third Wilson play recently directed by Rashad.
