What You'll Get
Richard Strauss' opera Salome, based on Oscar Wilde's scandalous play, has dazzled audiences since its 1905 opening night, which drew the likes of Mahler and Puccini. This darkly dramatic opera tells the biblical story of the disturbed temptress whose sensuous advances are rejected by the prophet John the Baptist, with tragic consequences. Catherine Naglestad, hailed by The Washington Post for her "gorgeous singing," makes her Met debut in the role of Salome, part innocent and part sexual predator. International star Zeliko Lucic, who's sung at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, San Francisco Opera and the Paris Opera, returns to the Met as Salome's nemesis Jochanaan (John the Baptist). Strauss' lush score includes the classic "Dance of the Seven Veils." This production, placed in a contemporary setting, is sung in German with subtitles in English, German and Spanish. A glass of champagne or a nonalcoholic beverage is included with each ticket. The tickets identified in this promotion are made available through Goldstar.
