Mrs. Packard tells the story of a great American woman's struggle to right a system gone wrong. On the morning of June 18, 1860, Reverend Theophilus Packard had his wife, Elizabeth, removed against her will from their home and committed to the state-run insane asylum for her liberal beliefs. There, Elizabeth remained true to her principles in the face of intense hardship. This powerful play cuts back and forth from her time in the asylum and the trial in which she fought for her freedom. University of California, Irvine's Drama department presents Mrs. Packard at the Claire Trevor Theatre.
