The alluring sounds of Cuba, the unmistakable moves of Latin rhythm and the groundbreaking Motown movement come together for this concert at Caltech's Beckman Mall. Artistic director and conductor Rachael Worby leads the MUSE/IQUE Orchestra through a jam-packed program of Motown hits and Latin grooves, with special guest appearances from jazz phenomenon Alfredo Rodríguez, Broadway star Paulette Ivory (Fela!, The Lion King), and the transformative company Ballet Hispánico. Bring a picnic or enjoy onsite concessions during this outdoor concert in Pasadena.
Event begins at 5:30pm for mingling and dining. Concert begins at 7:30pm.
The evening will include Alfredo’s original compositions, “Meteorite” and “El Güije” with orchestra. Alfredo will also be performing a Latin arrangement of “Jesu, The Joy of Man’s Desiring” by Bach.
Ballet Hispánico will be dancing to “Danzón" by Paquito D’Rivera, “Stabat Mater” by Pergolesi and “A Night in Tunisia” by Dizzy Gillespie.
Paulette Ivory will perform renditions of “It Don’t Mean A Thing” and “I Got it Bad, And That Ain’t Good.”
