What You'll Get
It’s the most stimulating museum in New York! With its continuing mission to preserve and present the history, evolution and cultural significance of human sexuality in a factual, informative and entertaining environment, the Museum of Sex features revolving exhibitions throughout the year. Currently you can discover Mariette Pathy Allen, who has been documenting, for over 40 years, the spectrum of gender expression. Pathy Allen’s archive consists of thousands of photographs, countless interview transcripts, personal correspondence, and materials related to a career dedicated to supporting and documenting trans and gender-variant communities. You’ll enjoy James Bidgood’s exhibit Reveries. Bidgood was born in Madison, Wisconsin in 1933, at the height of the Depression. From the time of his arrival in New York at age 18, he immersed himself in the underground worlds of drag, hustling and pornography. In the 1950s, Bidgood was a drag queen and set and lighting designer at the legendary New York nightclub Club 82. There’s also Punk Lust: Raw Provocation 1971-1985, a survey looking at the way punk culture used the language of sexuality — both visually and lyrically — to transgress and defy, whether in the service of political provocation, raw desire, or just to break through the gender norms and social expectations that punks refused to let define them. And don’t miss STAG The Good Old Naughty Days 1905-1930, as well as Jump for Joy — a bouncy castle of breasts — plus an eclectic mix of erotic art and realia in Spotlight on the Permanent Collection. You will also discover some interactive games as a sneak preview of an upcoming exhibit. Enjoy coffee and tea beverages and bites at the Disco, plus specialty cocktails (Boob Jello shots or Lover Cocktail Champagne) as well as beer and wine and other traditional liquor, and of course a one-of-a kind selection of gift items, souvenirs and books in the Mosex Store.
