What You'll Get
Singer-songwriter Joseph Arthur brings his distinctive gravelly voice and delicate melodies to San Diego's Music Box. Discovered in the '90s by Peter Gabriel, Arthur quickly gained a following on the strength of his eclectic sound, which draws influences from Leonard Cohen, Jeff Buckley and Gabriel himself. Since then, Arthur has been nominated for a Grammy award, put out a slew of albums, placed a ton of songs on various TV shows, started his own record label, wrote a book of poetry and made a name for himself as a visual artist. His most recent record releases include 2015's Days of Surrender and an all-acoustic tribute album of Lou Reed songs. Expect a sampling of sounds from Arthur's diverse catalog, some carefully chosen covers and, if you're lucky, he may create a work of visual art live on stage. Psychedelic folk rocker Lee Harvey Osmond, aka Tom Wilson, opens, along with Reuben Hollebon.
