What You'll Get

The San Francisco Symphony presents an evening of powerful, awe-inspiring music from captivating Russian composers at the Davies Symphony Hall. Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition envisions scenes of children playing, Roman tombs and more elegant everyday vignettes through the amplified grandeur of music. Composed in 1874, the piece was written drawing inspiration from friend and artist Viktor Hartmann's wanderlust-fueled images of Italy, France, Poland, Russia, and Ukraine. Although the piece has been reworked several times, it stands strong as an arrangement that builds, peaks and astounds. The evening also includes Tchaikovsky's renowned Violin Concerto and Glazunov's divine Concert Waltz No. 1.
