What You'll Get

They shared the limelight as two of classic Hollywood's most famous and respected leading ladies. But behind the scenes, the two stars famously carried on a bitter feud throughout their careers, which became fodder for unending gossip and legendary Hollywood lore. Yet the rivalry that fueled their deep personal animosity also pushed each to excel, and between them they achieved some of the the most memorable roles that filmgoers have had the good fortune to enjoy. Joan Crawford got her start in silent film, first appearing in minor roles in lavish MGM productions, then transitioning to the gritty Warner Bros. films where she became famous. While Crawford's performances often appeared over-the-top, she was always psychologically committed to her roles, which grew darker, more villainous and indelible as her career progressed. Bette Davis, on the other hand, worked at Warner Bros. for nearly her entire career, establishing herself as Hollywood's top star and a model for the strong, modern woman. Northwest Film Center brings you a film retrospective on these two women, two of Hollywood's original A-list celebs, at the Portland Art Museum's Whitsell Auditorium. From a seductive young Crawford in Grand Hotel to Davis' Little Foxes, you can see all the iconic films that earned these two women their star status.
