This retelling of Mark Twain's The Prince and the Pauper gives the classic story a Shakespearean twist, moving the setting to Elizabethan England and changing the titular prince to Princess Elizabeth in the time before she ascended to the throne. Bored with her lavish life spent fending off oafish suitors, Princess Elizabeth trades places with Theresa, a young beggar who happens to look exactly like Elizabeth. At first the swap is all fun and games -- until King Henry VIII dies and touches off a power struggle for the throne. The Pauper Princess is coming to the stage at the Peoria Center for the Performing Arts. The tickets identified in this promotion are made available through Goldstar.
