What You'll Get
Some say war is hell, but 9 Circles takes it a step further. Reimagining Dante's Inferno set in the Iraq War, the play tracks one soldier's transgression, judgment and penance in nine scenes. He wrestles with guilt as he spirals downward through military tribunals, therapy sessions and jail cells. Based on the true story of Steven Dale Green, a soldier convicted of rape and murder, the protagonist navigates a hellish labyrinth of military men, lawyers, clergy and psychiatrists who all push a different version of events on him. Are they looking for truth, or just someone to punish? Jesuit priest Bill Cain, writer of 9 Circles, remarks on Dante's Divine Comedy that "Although some of the people you meet in hell are undoubtedly evil, many are not ... There are sympathetic moments all along the way. And there is compassion for the damned." The powerful Strawberry Theatre Workshop show pushes through darkness for a glimpse of light at 12th Avenue Arts in Seattle.
This show features nudity, sexual content and mature themes.
