What You'll Get
Northwestern University professor Laura Kipnis got herself into some deep water on the school's lakefront campus after publishing a journal article arguing that college sexual-harassment policies are too limiting, putting them in conflict with the fight for feminism. Students went on to file a Title IX discrimination complaint against her for "creating a hostile environment." Now, she comes to the Studebaker Theater, courtesy of Chicago Humanities, to discuss the release of her 2017 book on the controversy, Unwanted Advances: Sexual Paranoia Comes to Campus, in which she makes her case that the "new sexual McCarthyism" in higher education and "neo-sentimentality about female vulnerability" has endangered the struggle for gender equality. A signing follows Kipnis' discussion with WTTW11's Elizabeth Brackett.
