The 2016 recipient of the Obie Lifetime Achievement Award, playwright A.R. Gurney (The Cocktail Hour, Love Letters, Sylvia) premieres a pair of short plays in which offstage battles are sparked by new onstage takes on the classics. When an ambitious student decides to tackle an adaptation of Sophocles' war epic Ajax, his English professor, a former actress, finds herself becoming overly involved with both the writing and the writer. And in Squash, featuring actor Dan Amboyer of TV's Younger, a lit prof's ideas are upended by a student's fresh view of Plato's Symposium, leading to skirmishes over love, sex and sports. Continuing Gurney's long relationship with The Flea, Ajax and Squash appear as part of the TriBeCa theater's Two Class Acts series.
