What You'll Get
For more than 78 years, Friends of Chamber Music has delighted Portland audiences with innovative programming that presents traditional ensembles alongside more esoteric offerings. In the early 1980s the Friends' concert series became so popular and tickets sold out so quickly that the directors decided to expand the number of shows, and the public kept filling the seats at various venues around Portland. From a German baritone to a San Francisco piano duo to a Danish string quartet to a Montreal nine-piece ensemble with a penchant for rock 'n' roll theatrics, the 2016-2017 season promises to be another fantastic one for Friends of Chamber Music.
Collectif9 at Alberta Rose Theatre
A nine-piece string ensemble from Canada, collectif9 presents classical music with rock-style charisma, combining boldness and the highest of musical standards with amplification and lighting.
Christian Gerhaher, Baritone at Lincoln Performance Hall
German baritone Christian Gerhaher is a highly sought-after performer, particularly celebrated as a Lied singer. The impact of his recitals is best described by comments from Rupert Christiansen of The Telegraph (London), who said: “I can’t think of any voice in the world that moves me more … hearing him is something you will want to tell your grandchildren about.” There will be a pre-concert talk by Theresa Koon at 2:00pm in Lincoln Hall, Room 225.
