What You'll Get
In October 1998, a 21 year-old student was kidnapped, beaten and left tied to a fence in a prairie outside Laramie, Wyoming. His bloody, battered body was discovered the next day, but he died several days later in an area hospital. His name was Matthew Shepard and he was targeted for being gay. Moisés Kaufman and fellow members of the Tectonic Theater Project made six trips to Laramie to conduct more than 200 interviews and follow the trial of the two young men accused of killing Shepard. Kaufman interviewed those directly connected to the case as well as citizens of the town, finding an incredible breadth of reactions that were both unsettling and fascinating. The Laramie Project at Westminster Community Playhouse is a breathtaking collage that explores the depths to which humanity can sink and the heights of compassion of which we are capable.
