What You'll Get
The traditional method for preparing sushi requires slices of raw fish to be held over unlit fires in order to secure that signature “uncooked” flavor. Explore such innovative foodsmithing with today’s Groupon: for $35, you get $70 worth of fine Japanese cuisine at Gonpachi in Beverly Hills. Groupon customers will also receive a free warm or cold house sake.
Gonpachi fashions its menu of authentic Japanese fare and Edomae (Tokyo-style) sushi from locally sourced ingredients, as well as authentic foodstuffs purchased from Tokyo's Tsukiji Market. Gonpachi hand-pounds its soba noodles daily from buckwheat flour threshed and milled on the premises. These freshly noodled noodles can then be served chilled with a dipping sauce as seiro ($8) or in a hot broth as kake soba ($8–$9). Gonpachi in Beverly Hills also practices the slow-cooking robata-style, preparing delicacies such as Chilean sea bass ($6) and bacon-wrapped cherry tomatoes ($3) over the gentle firelight of a traditional oak-charcoal pyramid. On the other end of the cooked spectrum, sushi fans can trap spicy tuna rolls ($5) between the bamboo chopsticks in their hands or the insect pincers on their faces. Chopsticks also protect hands from the flavor explosion of the dynamite roll ($16).
Whatever you order, you're guaranteed to enjoy it in an exquisite, elegant dining environment that nicely complements marriage proposals, anniversary dinners, and hyper-stylized samurai showdowns. Designed to mirror a traditional Japanese home (but with an atypically elaborate kitchen staff), the Beverly Hills interior was fashioned by miyadaiku carpenters from aged wood and roof tiles brought from Japan, and the restaurant's three distinct wings encircle an inner garden. Like spell-checking one's monogram request, reservations are recommended.

- this place serves a very traditional Japanese food. Sushi, the edo-mae style, Kushi-yaki on a Sumi (charcoal?), and their daily handmade Soba. – dineoutluver, Citysearch
- ...the ambiance is also incredible. You can sit in a beautiful garden right along a beautiful Koi pond. It's like being in your own little oasis. It's almost magical. – Victoria C., Yelp
