What You'll Get
Astronaut cooks have made numerous attempts to wrangle hamburgers into space-ready meals, from dehydrated-pickle disks to vacuum-sealed burger bottles. Enjoy what our starry-eyed brethren never can with today’s Groupon: for $7, you get $15 worth of burgers, sandwiches, seafood, and more at GooRoo's Grill on Highway 59 in Robertsdale.
After more than two decades in the construction business, Ed "The GooRoo" Johnson opened up a burger bastion named after his middle name. The roadside stand has evolved into a full-fledged patty-prepping plant that offers an assortment of eats cooked to order, such as the never-frozen GooRoo burger, a quarter- or half-pound protein disc smothered in a steaming pile of cheddar cheese ($5.59 for a quarter pound, $6.89 for a half pound). The staff happily serves up Fish 'N Slaw subs, whose toasted buns conceal blackened sea-critters drowned by homemade coleslaw and tartar sauce ($6.99).
If you're less carnivorously inclined, munch on a veggie sub stuffed with sautéed onions, mushrooms, peppers, and provolone cheese ($4.29). Cheesesteak-chompers can chow down on a Philly-inspired sustenance satchel trimmed with all the trappings of the veggie sub, but stocked with thinly sliced rib eye instead of legumes ($7.49). The shrimp po' boy populates plates with fried shrimp under a blanket of lettuce and onion ($8.99), and starters such as hand-battered fried pickles ($3.99) or a cup of GooRoo gumbo ($4.99) bolster any meal or, in the case of size-challenged stomachs, serve as a meal themselves. Enjoy eats inside the homey restaurant, or break into your beefy entrees at the outdoor picnic tables.
