Established in 1925, the Goodman Theatre is one of Chicago’s oldest and largest not-for-profit theaters, filling patrons' eyes and ears with classic and contemporary works created by local, national, and international artists. Written by esteemed playwright Yasmina Reza, God of Carnage has captured the attention of critics, with its Broadway production earning the Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Comedy and three Tony Awards, including Best Play and Least Dangerous Pyrotechnics Show. In the explosive four-character comedy, two well-to-do couples convene in an attempt to civilly resolve their sons' playground conflict. During the meeting, the characters rapidly descend from gracious discourse to animalistic hostility, shining a light on the barbaric side of human nature. God of Carnage is appropriate for high-school ages and older, and runs 75 minutes with no intermission—about the same time it takes to beat Willem Dafoe at tic-tac-toe.
