What You'll Get
Knitting has long baffled self-starters with its complex patterns, difficult casting maneuvers, and time-warp inducing loop-de-loops. Avoid becoming unraveled under the care of a seasoned professional with today's Groupon: for $55, you get two, one-hour knitting workshops (a $110 value) at Gotta Knit! on East Thirty-Fourth Street.
Whether you've never knitted before or you once knit a bridge across the Grand Canyon and then forgot how to knit, Gotta Knit! will help spun-alpaca dreams come true. The friendly, wise staff can guide unsteady hands and untangle knots with ease. Choose from four workshops: hats (for brand-new knitters), sweaters (for beginners with minimal experience), lace (also for beginners), and socks (for intermediate knitters. The quiet setting will ensure new students can remain calm and relaxed while mastering their new skill, unlike fiber-manipulating classes taught by Rumpelstiltskin, whose baby-snatching threats create a decidedly stressful learning environment.
Once you've joined the clan of knitters, you will be free to craft clever homemade hats and scarves for your friends and family this holiday season, or present your favorite Defarge with a soft, snuggly blacklist of revolutionary traitors this Bastille Day. Mellow Saturday afternoons will be spent sitting in silent sunbeams beside a ball of indigo wool, and Saturday evenings will pass while knitting finishing lines and shifter cozies for illegal street races.
- Knitting isn’t just for grandmas and geriatrics anymore, and this colorful retail studio hybrid is proof…Beginners should opt for private lessons…which promise to teach you the basics of knitting and crochet in only an hour. – Rachel LeWinter, Time Out
- I also love the ladies of Gotta Knit I feel welcome everytime I go. If anyone else is shopping around for a place to learn how to knit Gotta Knit is it. – Baa baa bad sheep, Citysearch

About Gotta Knit!
In 1987, Laura Eackloff, recent podiatry school graduate, took her first knitting class. In 1998, she sold her podiatry practice and opened Gotta Knit!, a knitting center in which she teaches classes along with her partner, Goldie Axelrod. Both experienced in the medical field, their nurturing natures serve their students well, as they support them in learning to craft garments and accessories from yarn. Each year Goldie and Laura fly to knitwear shows in Italy to keep up with the latest trends in shape, color, and style. Once home, they write patterns on request for on-trend garments that fit the customer's body and knitting ability.
