Master makeup artist Melissa Debiak may have more in common with a geometry teacher than one would guess. Glancing at her clients’ eyebrows, Melissa can strategically tweeze away hairs to make them symmetrical. She never uses stencils or wax, and she says her freehand expertise has garnered more than 1,000 repeat customers.
She serves them as well as clients in search of makeovers and makeup tutorials at Mirror Mirror, which she decorated to emulate an old Hollywood powder room. Chandeliers seem to drip streams of crystal and light down onto portraits of Audrey Hepburn and other actresses, and the staff chats with patrons, showing them how to emulate the starlets’ easy glamour without dining on expensive feather boas. After a lesson, patrons peruse Mirror Mirror’s hypoallergenic products, which include bronzer, lipstick, eyeliner, and eye shadow in more than 75 colors.
