The name, inspired by the Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping is how the business got its name. Horseback riding runs deep in the Shaffer family. And as a fourth generation equestrian, Nina M. Shaffer, founder of Grand Slam Equestrian, lives up to the tradition. Nina decided to give young riders an opportunity to experience horsemanship in a safe and supportive environment. She first mounted a horse at the age of sixteen months and participated in her first horse show two months later. What followed was a successful and diverse career as an equestrian competitor, instructor, and educator. Inspired by the Rolex Grand Slam competition that links four of the world’s top equestrian events, Nina decided to give young riders unable to own their own animal a chance to compete and hone their skills.
