Houston Fajita Festival
On Saturday, June 4, Houston’s Humble Civic Center will fill with the sizzling sounds and delicious smells of the first annual Houston Fajita Festival. Chefs from area restaurants, food trucks, and even home kitchens will serve up their takes on Tex-Mex cooking’s most showstopping dish, with each steaming platter of carne asada, shrimp, or chicken pursuing the coveted People’s Choice Award. Pair your favorites with drinks from Grandma’s Boys lemonade or tequila and micheladas from the festival’s beer and spirits garden.
In between bites of meaty fajitas, take in the abundant live entertainment. You can move to the beat of Latin music sets or stare in awe as contestants take each other on in a jalapeño-eating contest. Admire the slick low riders parked around the area for some firey engine power to go with your bottles of hot sauce. There’s plenty for the kids to do, too, including a playground equipped with a dunk tank perfect for a laugh or for cooling off after one too many peppers.
