The Issue: Dogs Suffering from Treatable Conditions
Dogs in shelters do not always receive the necessary care to prevent commonly overlooked but treatable ailments. Demodex, or mange, is a skin parasite that can cause serious conditions if left untreated, such as the deterioration of a dog’s immune system and severe hair loss. Even though the condition is treatable, the symptoms may turn off potential adopters and put the dog at greater risk of being euthanized.
The Campaign: Treating Great Danes for Demodex
If 60 people donate $10, then Great Dane Friends of Ruff Love can treat two great danes for demodex, a species of parasitic mites that can cause serious skin conditions. Each additional $10 raised will go toward providing treatments for other great danes with special needs. By treating injuries and medical conditions, Great Dane Friends of Ruff Love ensures that more dogs can find adoptive homes and avoid being unnecessarily euthanized.

Great Dane Friends of Ruff Love
Great Dane Friends of Ruff Love rescues great danes and other mixed-breed dogs, especially those with specials needs or health problems. Volunteers pick up the dogs from local shelters and evaluate them for temperament and health. After caring for any treatable conditions, such as heartworms or injuries that require surgery, the volunteers place the dogs in compatible foster homes. The foster families supply the dogs with food and toys, transport them to and from the vet, and bring them to events to meet potential adopters.
