Jan Stockton, a 3rd degree black belt, has been a leader in the martial arts for over 35 years. She is the founder of Great Start Karate and co-founder of Karate West in Washington state, one of the largest martial arts schools in the country. Jan has seen a positive impact in thousands of kids who discover the physical benefits of the martial arts, but more importantly, the character development they experience by learning valuable life skills such as respect, self-discipline, focus and more. In 2020 when the pandemic closed in-person classes, Jan was one of the first to launch virtual classes so kids could continue to train online. When the shutdown was lifted, Jan learned that many parents loved having their kids train at home, as it meant no travel, cost savings, and Covid safety.
