Greenaid Seedbombs spreads seeds throughout urban areas while empowering economically disadvantaged individuals and those who have experienced homelessness. To do both, Greenaid makes it easier for the public to take part in guerrilla gardening. The organization equips anyone with a slingshot or a good throwing arm with seedbombs: balls of clay, compost, and seeds that take root wherever they land. All it takes is some sunlight, water, and a layer of soil. Guerilla gardeners fling the beginnings native trees, edible plants, and wildflowers into parking meridians, empty lots, and other areas where plant life can have a transformational effect. To find a seedbomb, it’s as easy as visiting one of more than 160 vending machines across the globe. <p>

In addition to proliferating green spaces, Greenaid works in partnership with Chrysalis—a nonprofit group that employs formerly homeless and economically disadvantaged individuals—to provide more than 6,000 work hours for local underserved residents. These employees hand roll each seedbomb, adding fresh seeds to balls of clay and compost.
