A philosopher once called theater “the mask of convention over the face of society in the mirror of the unknown reflecting the rearview of the sports car of destiny.” Take a ride in Willy Wonka’s sports car with today’s Groupon: a ticket (up to a $12 value) to the Community Theatre of Greensboro’s production of Willy Wonka The Musical. Two ticket types are available for a bevy shows:
- July 17, 18, 24, and 25, at 2 p.m.
- July 16, 17, 22, 23, and 24, at 7 p.m.
- $4 for a kid’s ticket for ages 12 and under (an $8 value)
- $6 for an adult ticket (a $12 value)
The Community Theatre of Greensboro’s production of Willy Wonka The Musical is a live-action version of Roald Dahl’s 1964 children’s classic, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, or a less intensely disturbing version of a couple of weird films about marauding Oompa Loompas. The musical tells the tale of a poor boy who gets a golden ticket to tour a legendary candymaker’s factory, where sinister sweets such as Fizzy Lifting Drinks, Three-Course-Dinner Gum, and Peppermint-Coated Multiplication Tables tempt the children. The production is set on Grimsley High School’s spacious stage, which makes room for each of the musical adaptation’s vibrant sets, as well as an ample resonation chamber for the music and lyrics by Leslie Bricusse.
Seating for Willy Wonka The Musical is general admission with your Groupon, so arrive up to an hour ahead of showtime and in style for the first come, first self-served sitdown. Shovel a huge shovelful of golden Groupons into your family and friends’ waiting hands and ride a chocolate car to the candied show.
The Willy Wonka cast was recently featured on Fox 8 News.
