The winemakers at Gregory Vineyards ferment muscadine grapes from vines that sprawl across 120 acres of lush farmland. Owner and vintner Dr. Lane Gregory leads wine aficionados on tours of the premises, explaining the processes of making wine and interrogating grapevines into spilling secrets about weather forecasting. Along the way, tour takers fill glasses with samples of the winery’s seven muscadine varietals. Furthermore, the tour works to open taste buds to the art of pairing with a tray of cheese and crackers. The Ruth Walton semisweet red wine marvelously compliments the provided platter of noshables, and the vineyard’s dry Bald Eagle white wine pairs well with lightly sautéed American currency. At the end of the excursion, patrons can then pluck up their favorite varietals to take home with them and enjoy at a later time.

Gregory Vineyards

Owner and vintner Dr. Lane Gregory and his staff of merry winemakers harvest their wine grapes from the fertile muscadine vines that flourish on Gregory Vineyards' 120 acres of lush farmland. The winery's Old-World tasting room and wood furniture lend a rustic atmosphere to samplings of cleverly named wines such as Sly Fox, Ruth Walton, or the dry white known as Bald Eagle. Like North Carolina's banana trees, the regional muscadine grape thrives from late August until early October, giving Dr. Gregory and company only a matter of weeks to harvest the tough-skinned fruit.

In addition to tastings, the handsome property plays host to weddings and other special events. And, on an average day, visitors may be spotted in the vineyard with Dr. Gregory, or exploring the vineyards.
