Before Alfred Hitchcock’s chilling thriller The Birds made everyone afraid of our feathered friends, there was Daphne du Maurier’s horrifying short story of the same name. So enduring is its terror that it also inspired a play a few years ago, and you can feel the suspense at Chicago’s Theater Wit when the Griffin Theatre Company presents Conor McPherson’s stage adaptation. The play focuses on a group of strangers trapped inside a remote cabin during the attack, and as the situation becomes dire they start to realize the horror outside is nothing compared to that which lurks within.
