The Issue: Stress in Families with Chronically Ill Children
Children living with chronic illnesses such as asthma, diabetes, or kidney disease must often miss out on some of the simple joys of childhood as a result of having to manage their illnesses. Along with causing children to miss more school than their peers, chronic illnesses can also put financial stresses on parents.
The Campaign: Helping Kids Buy Gifts for Chronically Ill Peers
If this Grassroots campaign raises $500, then Angelwish can host a Giving Spree for 20 kids to purchase gifts for 20 other children with chronic illnesses. All donations will be matched up to $2,500 by Propheta Communications. Each additional $25 raised will allow another child to purchase a gift for a child with a chronic illness.
For a Giving Spree, children go to local toy stores to select a holiday or birthday gift for a child with a chronic illness whose parents might not have been able to afford it otherwise. Since the child's peers choose the gifts, the items are typically both age appropriate and popular among kids.
All donations will be matched up to a $2,500 total by Propheta Communications.

Since it was founded in 1999, Angelwish’s donors have helped provide more than 130,000 gifts to children living with chronic illnesses. Originally created to help bring joy to children with HIV/AIDS, Angelwish expanded in 2010 to serve children living with other chronic illnesses, such as asthma, diabetes, and kidney disease. Through holiday toy drives, online donations, and local Giving Sprees, where gifts are chosen by the children's peers, Angelwish sends gifts to children across the country and around the world.
