The Issue: Medical Care for Diva, a Neglected Horse
Diva, a special-needs horse that was physically abused and neglected, remains shy and timid after years of rehabilitation and loving care. When she first arrived at Hope for Horses, she was significantly underweight and had an infection that’s left her blind in her left eye.
A horse’s hooves must be trimmed every six to eight weeks, while vaccinations and dental care must be done at least once a year—and for Diva, this requires special handling and sedation.
The Campaign: Providing Veterinary Care for Diva
If this Grassroots campaign raises $500, then Hope for Horses can cover the cost of a month’s worth of care for Diva. This would include her feed and hoof care, plus Bute (an anti-inflammatory medication) and sedatives. The next $380 raised would be used to provide a year’s worth of worm medication, vaccinations, and vet calls for Diva, and each additional $500 raised would be used to cover another month of care.

Hope for Horses
With a mission to promote the safety and well-being of neglected, abused, and abandoned horses, Hope for Horses fosters and cares for horses as well as provides specialized training for law-enforcement and animal-control officers. As one of the oldest equine-welfare organizations in the state, Hope for Horses recognized the need for better resources for officers and developed the state’s first equine-cruelty-investigations-training course. Volunteers feed, groom, and care for the horses as they await foster care or adoption.
