The Issue: Lack of Basic Items in Permanent Housing
Through Pathways to Housing DC's Housing First model, individuals who are experiencing homelessness and other complex needs, such as addiction or psychiatric disabilities, can obtain immediate access to permanent housing. Although Pathways to Housing DC receives housing vouchers from federal and local governments, the vouchers do not typically cover the costs of security deposits, furniture, and other household items necessary to help ensure housing stability.
The Campaign: Providing Furniture for New Homes
If this Grassroots campaign raises $900, then Pathways to Housing DC can provide furniture to a person transitioning from homelessness into permanent, supportive housing. This furniture package includes a mattress and box spring, television, dining room table and chairs, dresser, coffee table, couch, and lamps. Each additional $900 raised will be used to purchase another furniture set.

Working with the belief that housing is a basic human right, Pathways to Housing DC addresses chronic homelessness among people with psychiatric disabilities or addictions by providing immediate access to housing without preconditions. The organization serves as a comprehensive resource for its clients by providing supportive treatment services in addition to housing. Services such as wellness groups, therapy, nutrition consultations, and vocational planning help clients move toward recovery and achieve personal goals.
Since its founding in 2004, Pathways to Housing DC has housed more than 500 people in Washington, DC alone, and maintains an 85% housing retention rate, even among those who were not considered housing-ready by other programs.
