What You'll Get
The Issue: Sexual Violence in Wisconsin
Statistics show that one in four women will be the victim of sexual assault in her lifetime, and the victim is younger than 18 in 71% of sexual assaults in Wisconsin, according to the Wisconsin Office of Justice Assistance. Because sexual assault is one of the most underreported crimes, the statistics are likely even higher, as noted by the Wisconsin Coalition Against Sexual Assault.
When victims of sexual assault do report the crime and arrive at the hospital for forensic examinations, which can take several hours, their clothes are often confiscated as evidence. Having to arrange for new clothes or wear hospital scrubs home can enhance feelings of trauma.
The Campaign: Providing ER Kits to Sexual Assault Victims
If this Grassroots campaign raises $500, then Reach Counseling Services can provide emergency-room resources to 25 victims of sexual assault. The packages include a shirt and pants, undergarments, and toiletries such as a toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, and a hairbrush. Making these items available can help comfort the victim and restore feelings of normalcy. Each additional $20 raised will be used to provide another victim of sexual assault with this emergency-room resource package.
You can follow the progress of this and other Grassroots campaigns at the Groupon Grassroots website.
