The Issue: High Animal Euthanasia Rates in Texas
Euthanasia rates of animal shelters in Texas are 10% higher than the average United States rates, with 58% of shelter animals euthanized, according to the 2011 Animal Welfare Plan by The Meadows Foundation. Besides lowering the euthanasia rate and fighting pet overpopulation, spaying or neutering can also help prevent certain infections and cancers in both male and female pets.
The Campaign: Subsidizing Costs of Spaying or Neutering
If this Grassroots campaign raises $420, matched by an anonymous donor to become $840, then Spay/Houston can subsidize the cost of spaying or neutering 12 pets whose owners have low incomes. Each additional $70 raised, coupled with matching donations, will subsidize two more spaying or neutering services.
All donations will be matched up to a $5,000 total by an anonymous donor. You can follow the progress of this and other Grassroots campaigns at the Groupon Grassroots website.
