The Issue: Effects of Companion Animals on Owners' Health
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that companion animals can enhance people’s lives and improve overall health, including by lowering blood pressure and stress levels. Many adults with disabilities or who are homebound also keep companion animals for social interaction.
The Campaign: Delivering Pet Supplies to Homebound Adults
If this Grassroots campaign raises $300, then the SPCA of Wake County can deliver one month of pet food, supplies, treats, and medication to participants in the Animeals program: adult pet owners with disabilities or who are homebound. Each additional $10 raised will go toward funding additional months of supplies and enrolling new Animeals clients. The Animeals program delivers food to the homes of seniors and adults who cannot otherwise afford to keep their pets. This extra help ensures that pet owners can afford the daily necessities to keep pets healthy, out of shelters, and by their sides.
