The Issue: At-Risk Preschool Kids Often Fall Behind their Peers
According to data from the United States Census Bureau, more than one in five children lives in poverty in the United States. Many of them face the added barrier of limited English-language proficiency. Children who are labeled at risk due to their financial and linguistic backgrounds can benefit from supplementary educational boosts to help them perform at the same level as their peers by the time they reach school age.
The Campaign: Early Education Helps Prep Children for School
If this Grassroots campaign raises $300, then The Child & Family Network Centers can fund one week of all-day preschool for an at-risk child younger than 5 years old, including meals and supplies such as construction paper, crayons, pencils, and glue sticks. Each additional $300 will provide a week of preschool for another child.

The Child and Family Network Centers
The Child and Family Network Centers provides free education and social services for preschool children, and job training for their families. The children it serves are considered at-risk due to limited English proficiency and low-income backgrounds. To fulfill the need for strong educational programs, CFNC operates a year-round preschool in 10 classrooms—with literacy and language support for bilingual children in 27 languages—to prepare them for kindergarten with their peers. These programs reach out to families in their own neighborhoods and supplement the students’ education with additional resources such as health services.
