The Issue: Poverty and Homelessness in Milwaukee
According to the 2010 U.S. Census, 26% of Milwaukee residents lived in poverty between 2006 and 2010. The city's 2011 Point in Time survey counted more than 1,400 homeless adults and children on a single day.
The Campaign: Serve Breakfast to People in Need
If this Grassroots campaign raises $500, then The Gathering of Southeast WI, Inc. can provide breakfast to 200 people experiencing homelessness or hunger. Each additional $10 donation provides four more guests with breakfast. Meals cost $2.50 apiece.
The Gathering's Breakfast Program serves meals Monday–Friday at its downtown site. Roughly 75% of the more than 200 guests served each morning are experiencing homelessness.

The Gathering of Southeast WI, Inc.
With the help of hundreds of volunteers, The Gathering of Southeast WI, Inc. serves 10 free meals each week to those who might otherwise go hungry. In 2011, the breakfast program—the only service of its kind in the area—gave away more than 50,000 meals from three inner-city locations. The sites also serve dinner twice a week, as well as lunch on Saturday. All food is prepared fresh daily. All told, The Gathering provides meals to approximately 100,000 people experiencing homelessness or hunger each year.
