The Issue: High Unemployment Among Veterans
Although they have given their time to serve the United States at home and abroad, veterans can face difficulties obtaining jobs after finishing their tours of service. In July 2012, the unemployment rate among veterans was 6.9%, according to data from the US Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The Campaign: Providing Career Training for Veterans
If this Grassroots campaign raises $500, then Veterans Green Jobs can provide two veterans with career training and transitional services geared toward the green-jobs sector. Each additional $250 raised can provide career training and transitional services for another veteran. Within two years, Veterans Green Jobs hopes to connect with 1,000 veterans, placing at least 300 of them into green-sector jobs.

Through one-on-one career counseling, job training, and transitional services, it shepherds veterans into the environmentally conscious economic sector, focusing on jobs in areas such as energy conservation, green construction, and sustainable agriculture.
