Nearly 20,000 students enrolled in the Clear Creek, Dickinson, La Porte, and Friendswood school districts come from economically disadvantaged households. Last year, as part of its Operation School Bell program, Assistance League of the Bay Area provided clothing for 1,881 of these students, and the organization hopes to help more young people this school year.
Through Operation Bell, students in grades K–12 who were referred by school counselors and nurses receive a week's worth of clothing, plus toiletries, to help them start the school year feeling prepared and more confident. Teachers report that the program has a positive impact—both academically and socially—on the students it assists, many of whom demonstrate an increase in self-confidence and class participation.
Join G-Team and donate $10 to help provide local children from economically disadvantaged households with school clothing and toiletry items. If G-Team members raise $400, then Assistance League of the Bay Area can give eight children back-to-school clothing-and-hygiene kits that include two pairs of jeans or uniform pants, three shirts, a week's worth of underwear, one pair of shoes, and a full-size shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrush, and deodorant (for grades three and higher). Each child will also receive a haircut. Each additional $50 raised will provide another child with a clothing-and-hygiene kit.
Unlike traditional Groupon deals, G-Team campaigns typically don't offer you a "discount" or "savings." So "buyer" beware—when you click "Buy" to donate your time or money to a worthwhile G-Team cause, the only discount you may receive is 100 percent off free, priceless karma. Read more about G-Team.
