About This Deal

One in three teens will experience abuse in a romantic relationship, and more than two-thirds of them will never report it. In Los Angeles high schools, 12% of students report having been slapped, hit, or otherwise purposely hurt by their partners. Teen victims of intimate-partner violence demonstrate increased rates of substance abuse, teen pregnancy, high-risk behaviors, and suicide. Break the Cycle works to prevent dating violence through educational programs, public-awareness campaigns, and other training services for teens.

As part of the efforts of its youth programs, Break the Cycle sends representatives into classrooms to give presentations about preventing abusive relationships. The educators talk with teens about the types and warning signs of abuse and the hallmarks of healthy relationships, as well as provide tips for safely ending an abusive relationship and how teens can seek protection through the legal system. The presentations also employ a DVD learning tool that features interactive exercises, as well as interviews with young survivors. In addition to the classroom presentations, Break the Cycle also presents at larger school assemblies and provides schools with outreach kits that include posters, key chains, and cards that list common warning signs of abuse. The organization would like to implement its training program in four schools, but requires additional funding in order to do so.

Join G-Team and donate $10 to help Break the Cycle raise awareness about domestic violence at LA-area schools. If G-Team members raise $480, then Break the Cycle can provide four schools with training programs that include outreach kits, in-school presentations, and interactive assemblies to educate students about teen-dating violence. Each additional donation will go toward providing the training program for another school.
