As economic strains continue to persist, low-income working families—single- or two-parent families earning a minimum wage—can find it difficult to afford the rising costs of urban housing. In 2010, Charlotte's homeless populations rose by 36% from the previous year, ranking it second in the nation for highest percentage jump in family homelessness in a survey from the United States Conference of Mayors. Charlotte Family Housing, one of the only transitional-housing agencies focused on supporting homeless families, aids these families using a holistic model: a two-phase system that offers transitional shelter or affordable housing and counseling services.
A recent merger of Charlotte Emergency Housing, Family Promise of Charlotte, and the Workforce Initiative for Supportive Housing, Charlotte Family Housing has the opportunity to provide temporary housing for six working homeless families in a new shelter space at St. John's Baptist Church. The shelter's dormitory-style quarters provide these families with a safe place to live while proceeding through the holistic program. Before the space opens in November, the rooms require basic sleeping necessities, including mattresses and bedding.
Join G-Team and donate $10 to help Charlotte Family Housing obtain a mattress and bedding for its temporary residents. If G-Team members raise $300, then Charlotte Family Housing can purchase a mattress and bedding for one of the bedrooms in the St. John's Baptist Church dormitory. Each additional $300 raised will provide another mattress and bedding for one of the bedrooms in the dormitory.
Unlike traditional Groupon deals, G-Team campaigns typically don't offer you a "discount" or "savings." So "buyer" beware—when you click "Buy" to donate your time or money to a worthwhile G-Team cause, the only discount you may receive is 100% off free, priceless karma. Read more about G-Team.
