What You'll Get
According the US Chess Federation, regularly playing chess helps students improve their performance in math and science classes by developing their logical-thinking and problem-solving skills. Following the example of its executive director, Georgi Orlov, the 1994 U.S. Open Chess Champion, Chess Mates Foundation sponsors afterschool chess programs in the Seattle area to enhance youth education with an entertaining teaching tool.
Chess Mates currently runs structured chess clubs in 29 elementary and middle schools in the region, offering free admittance to students in free- and reduced-lunch program. During October–April, chess clubs meet after class once a week with a trained instructor, using the provided chess workbooks and equipment for one hour of play. Students can pair up and outthink their opponents in riveting games that build memory and strategic-thinking skills. With this campaign, Chess Mates can fund chess-club memberships, which include an instructor and chess workbook, for students in primarily underprivileged schools.
Join G-Team and donate $10 to help improve students thinking skills in an after-school chess club. If G-Team members raise $360, Chess Mates Foundation can fund scholarships to pay for an instructor and chess workbook for four low-income students in its chess club. Each additional $10 raised will go toward funding a scholarship for another child.
Unlike traditional Groupon deals, G-Team campaigns typically don't offer you a "discount" or "savings." So "buyer" beware—when you click "Buy" to donate your time or money to a worthwhile G-Team cause, the only discount you may receive is 100% off free, priceless karma. Read more about G-Team.
