While it is clear that one-on-one or small-group attention from an adult mentor can provide myriad benefits to young students, many afterschool programs are unable to provide that degree of attention due to budget and personnel constraints. The Dallas AfterSchool Network (DASN) provides improvement and professional development tools for summer and afterschool programs.
The DASN recruits and carefully screens dedicated volunteers for afterschool programs, and provides them with the training and resources necessary to serve effectively in critical programs. During a two-hour training session, volunteers learn how to foster a safe and nurturing environment, evaluate a child's level of development based on age, and understand the socio-economic challenges the children face in their communities. After training, the DASN places new mentors in one of its 22 afterschool programs, and provides ongoing management and support to help them succeed in their positions. The organization requires more funding to complete its goal of acquiring and training additional mentors, in order to increase the capacity of its afterschool programs and improve the depth of the education they provide.
Join G-Team and donate $10 to help train volunteers for afterschool programs. If G-Team members raise $300, then Dallas AfterSchool Network can recruit and train one volunteer for weekly mentorship at one of the organization's 22 afterschool programs. Each additional $300 raised will fund training for another mentor.
Unlike traditional Groupon deals, G-Team campaigns typically don't offer you a "discount" or "savings." So "buyer" beware—when you click "Buy" to donate your time or money to a worthwhile G-Team cause, the only discount you may receive is 100% off free, priceless karma. Read more about G-Team.
