For individuals living with HIV/AIDS or cancer, the physical strain and special dietary needs that result from illness may lead to malnutrition. Chronic malnutrition may in turn exacerbate the progression of HIV into AIDS or early-stage cancer into more advanced stages. Nutritional support such as diet counseling and monitoring, as well as acquiring specific health foods, can be prohibitively expensive for low-income patients. Food Outreach serves St. Louisans facing HIV/AIDS or cancer with the services of registered dieticians and free meal programs to ensure they receive proper nutrition, regardless of its cost.
Food Outreach's team of staff and volunteers supports a growing number of local clients from diverse backgrounds and ages that now numbers more than 1,700 annually. To help foster a sense of community among its clients and their caregivers, Food Outreach hosts a Monday Hot Lunch program in its dining room. Guest chefs from the area or Food Outreach's own resident chef prepare the weekly three-course meal, and clients who attend enjoy restaurant style dining, complete with china, silverware, and linens. The nutritious meal changes every week, and an average of more than 100 clients attend each Monday Hot Lunch.
Join G-Team and donate $10 to help Food Outreach provide healthful, restaurant-style meals to St. Louisans living with HIV/AIDS or cancer. If G-Team members raise $400, then Food Outreach can provide three-course meals to 80 individuals through its Monday Hot Lunch program. Each additional $10 raised will provide Monday Hot Lunches for two more individuals.
