What You'll Get

Points of Light Institute mobilizes individuals to enact change in their communities by sponsoring engaging volunteer opportunities across the country. Points of Light’s volunteer-action division, HandsOn Network, is partnering with 9/11 Day to organize a nationwide day of charitable service to commemorate the 10th anniversary of 9/11, and the national spirit of unity that followed the attacks. The initiative includes scheduled community projects in a variety of cities, with the goal of completing a total of one million acts of service.

In the Charlotte area, Points of Light Institute plans to equip and mobilize volunteers with the tools and funding necessary to complete local service projects organized by Hands On Charlotte. Volunteers will work indoors and out, on projects such as building a new neighborhood park in Lincoln Heights. Caring cadets in other parts of the city will conduct basic farm chores on Shining Hope Farms, sort and process donations to the Crisis Assistance Ministry and Second Harvest Food Bank, and perform trail maintenance at the Charlotte Nature Museum.

Many of the projects facilitate learning new skill sets, such as disassembling old appliances to sell scrap metal with Habitat for Humanity's ReStore recycling program. Though Hands On Charlotte has a full schedule of events planned, the organization still lacks many of the materials necessary to complete the projects, including landscape equipment, trash bags, gloves, and boxes.

Join G-Team and donate $10 to help sponsor a day of service that will honor the anniversary of 9/11. If G-Team members raise $500, then Points of Light can purchase tools and supplies for charitable service projects across Charlotte. Each additional $10 raised will go toward funding more service projects during that weekend. G-Team members who want to volunteer can also sign up for opportunities in their communities.

Unlike traditional Groupon deals, G-Team campaigns typically don't offer you a "discount" or "savings." So "buyer" beware—when you click "Buy" to donate your time or money to a worthwhile G-Team cause, the only discount you may receive is 100 percent off free, priceless karma. Read more about G-Team.
